ROSTRAVER – A North Charleroi man is facing a string of charges accusing him of causing a vehicle crash in Rostraver Township this month that severely injured his passenger.

Rostraver Township police accuse Chase A. Courtney, 20, of driving a pickup truck with poorly treaded tires that caused the vehicle to hydroplane and overturn about 7:15 p.m. Dec. 1 on Route 906, court records indicate.

Courtney and his passenger, Fred Duval, 17, were not wearing seat belts, causing Duval to be ejected onto the roadway as the truck traveled up an embankment and rolled over, police stated in the affidavit.

Duval’s legs were broken in multiple places, injuries that required surgery and at least a five-day stay at UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh, police said.

Courtney, of 709 Liberty Ave., had a driver’s license that was suspended through 2025 because of multiple violations, the record show.

He was charged Wednesday with causing an accident that resulted in personal injuries while not being properly licensed, driving with a suspended or revoked license, having improper tires, speeding, not having a vehicle registration card and failure to use safety belts.

Senior District Judge Jesse J. Cramer signed a warrant Wednesday for Courtney’s arrest.
