North Strabane Township is considering a weekly farmers market in the township park off of Linden Road.

The township’s recreation facilities manager, Carl Hall, said the market would host produce and farming-related booths from May through October this year near the park concession stand.

“We were looking for things that would generate some interest and attract more people to the park,” Hall said. “There are probably a few people in the community that don’t know there’s a park up there.”

The farmers market still needs approval from the township supervisors and is expected to be on their voting agenda next week.

“Once we get the approval then we’ll proceed with identifying vendors,” Hall said. “As it expands it could grow into a nutritional value for the community.”

Hall’s plan would require the market vendors to pay $10 per week or $100 per season to have a booth in the market. He said he’s not yet sure what day or times the market will be held.

Hall said as interest grows, the township may consider welcoming crafters or other types of vendors to participate. He also said the township may, down the road, open ithe park up to a monthly car show.
