About Us
The Observer-Reporter has been part of Washington and Greene counties since the early 1800s. Printers William Sample and William B. Brown stopped at The Sign of the Swan tavern in the village of Washington on their way to Kentucky. Tavern owner John Rettig convinced them to set up their shop in the basement of his business, and on Aug. 15, 1808, The Reporter debuted.
