News, opinion not same
When it comes to the content on our editorial and commentary pages, we at the newspaper figure that if we make all of the people angry some of the time, we're doing our jobs.
Sometimes in the space of a single day, we are accused of being in bed with both the left-wing Democrats and the right-wing Republicans. We get calls and letters from people who think we have it in for President Obama, just as a few months ago we got calls and letters from folks who thought we were out to get President Bush. And people seem to get especially apoplectic over the political cartoons we publish.
The fact is, we make a concerted effort to provide a variety of voices on our opinion pages, with columns by conservatives such as George Will and Mona Charen, along with writing from liberals such as Nicholas Kristof and Paul Krugman.

While we always strive to stick with the facts and keep opinion out of the stories we run on our news pages, the editorial and commentary pages are published expressly to provide different viewpoints on stories that are in the news.
You'll no doubt like some of what you see in the columns, cartoons and editorials you find there. Other times, you might be angry. And that's a good thing.
Readers can certainly find news sources, printed and otherwise, that "preach to the choir." In other words, they'll tell you what you want to hear. But aren't you better off hearing both sides of an issue debated, even if it's just to find out what the "other side" is up to?
