WCCC here for 10 years

It seems like yesterday when Westmoreland County Community College had its administrative office in the basement of East Franklin Elementary School.
That was in 1999, when the community college moved into the county and created the Greene County Education Center of Westmoreland County Community College. Classes were offered at five high schools, and there were 64 students enrolled in evening classes.
Last week, at the college's present location at EverGreene Industrial Park, educators and students celebrated its 10th anniversary.
This fall, more than 200 students are enrolled in day and evening classes, and that alone speaks to the benefit of having a community college satellite in Greene County.

It was good to hear remarks from WCCC officials, a county commissioner and a former school superintendent, but most appreciated were remarks from three former students, because it is their experience and subsequent success that defines the college's mission.
