Movie buffs in the region will probably be living like moles and eating a lot of popcorn in the next couple of weeks, because the Three Rivers Film Festival begins tonight.

"The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus," the latest phantasmagorical offering from director and Monty Python veteran Terry Gilliam, is one of three opening-night movies. The cast features the late Heath Ledger and it's due to be released at Christmastime. It'll be available for a sneak peek at the Regent Square Theater today at 7 p.m.

"Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire" already is generating Oscar buzz. The story of an obese, inner city teenager who is abused by her father and becomes pregnant, will be at the Harris Theater at 7 tonight.

The Melwood Screening Room is hosting the premiere of the Pittsburgh-made comedy, "If It Ain't Broke, Break It." The cast includes Steve Guttenberg of the "Police Academy" movies and Sabrina Bryan of the Cheetah Girls. It will be shown at 7 p.m.

A follow-up to his "One-Man Star Wars," Ross recreates "The Lord of the Rings" with nothing more than elbow pads and his imagination. He plays all the characters, performs the music, fights the battles, cries the tears and ultimately triumphs over evil.

Reverend Peyton's

Big Damn Band

That's because Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band will be on hand. The band includes Peyton's wife, Washboard Breezy, and brother, Jayme Peyton. They're touring in support of their latest release, "The Whole Fam Damnily," which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard blues chart.
