Connecting with class
If Sid, Evgeni and the boys have a better record than those jokers from the east as of the day after Thanksgiving, I win a friendly wager.
The bet is with a Flyers fan I haven't seen in decades. And if I ever had a conversation with her, I don't recall it.
But we're buddies now, exchanging jabs about how the hockey teams on each side of Pennsylvania are faring.

Our Penguins-Flyers competition ends Nov. 27 because that's the night of our high school class reunion, which I plan to attend in Harrisburg.
Normally, I wouldn't bother. I still visit fairly regular with my best friends from then, at least until some of them finally started getting married and having children.
As for the rest of my classmates, I probably wouldn't remember most of them unless I took a look at our yearbook. And vice versa, I'm sure.
Now that I've made some online pals, though, I'm looking forward to the big event.
Come to think of it, the Internet might be responsible for the scheduling of the reunion in the first place. I vaguely remember hearing scuttlebutt about getting the gang back together for a couple of other milestone years. But if those actually occurred, nobody told me. Nor would I have particularly cared.
These days, it's much easier to track down classmates. Heck, if you're on Facebook, all you have to do is type in your high school and the year you graduated, and dozens of names pop onto the screen. And even if you're not involved with a reunion, finding people with whom you once went to school can be kind of fun.
One of my old classmates seems to like music even more than I do: He does a Facebook blast called Your Daily Dose of Rock and Roll, which delves into the genre's history for consistently interesting updates.
Another is proprietor of a venue called Karen's Harmony Hall, which looks to be a fantastic place judging by her Web site.
As for one classmate with whom I've connected recently - I think she was our valedictorian - let's just say that the single men really would enjoy her profile photo!
I'm looking forward to seeing all those folks in person, for the first time in I don't know how long.
Of course, that's if the Penguins keep on winning. I need bring bragging rights from this part of the state.
