About "Shoot 'em in the back"...

"This is a major climb down for Taser. Certainly the Taser has a place in the police arsenal. But it requires mature and intelligent operators. Only qualified officers that pass psychological and proficiency tests should be allowed to carry it. It has and will kill again. Too many doctors and too many dead people finally caught up with Taser's aggressive approach to marketing their device. I believe in proper behavior, and I am a major supporter of the police. But even the police need to take a second look at this thing and raise it up their force continuum."

"I would hope that all police officers have passed psychological testing whether they're issued Tasers or not. They're already carrying a more lethal weapon - a gun. With a Taser as a choice, I believe officers are less likely to be involved in a fatal outcome."

On "GOP should support health reform"...

"There is a shortage of H1N1 vaccine here in the U.S., but Canada has plenty, and it is free. Plus their system does not rely on businesses to act as as health insurance intermediaries; that makes Canadian business more competitive and it allows them to pay higher wages."

"Life expectancy is not a measure of medical care alone but of many social factors, including crime, obesity, and the like. The United States has a lower overall life expectancy because of the behavior of its citizens, not the cost of its health insurance. However, despite our propensity for life-ending behaviors, the United States is one of the best countries to have chronic illnesses treated. Our cancer survival rates are some of the best in the world, which means that our health care treatment is of superior quality (www.webmd.com/cancer/news/20080716/cancer-survival-rates-vary-by-country). Infant mortality rates also vary because the U.S. counts all babies born as live births, whereas EU countries and Canada only count babies that are above an arbitrary weight when they leave the womb. And Mr. Christman should know that France's health care system is not without its problems. Financially, it has run a growing deficit for years."

"The problem is political protectionism for a politician's next election. America is stuck in a quagmire of political donations, kickbacks, and cronyism. This behavior ensures a politician's entrenchment in the system without any regard to their consituents or the economy. The politicans have handed over our rights to corporations and by doing so have tanked our economy, literally right in the toilet."

On 'Beware of the hook of gas, coal leases'...

"It's about corporate and government responsibility toward extraction and its consequences, as well the corruption that seems to follow these as well as other industries. Political corruption has been revealed in all phases of government in that our legislatures are not lawmakers for the citizens of the U.S. or Pennsylvania but conduits for corporations to make as much profit as they can while leaving communities polluted. We are seeing that total corruption of our elected with the healthcare debate (both

Democrat and Republican) and more corruption will be revealed with the energy debate."

Just some more propaganda. This paper is amazing. First you pick which to post then publish them in the paper.

Amazing

On "Texan not flattered by column" : 11/2/2009
Ms. Bauch-Terrell will be encouraged to know that Pittsburghers have become quite fond of several Texans. Who didn’t love O.A. “Bum” Phillips, who coined the phrase, “The road to the Super Bowl runs through Pittsburgh.” Even in defeat, Bum was always very gracious. More recently, many of us from SW Pennsylvania have come to love and respect several of the gas drilling activists from Texas, who are also working hard to save their Texas air and water quality from rampant gas drilling. So it’s not about where you are from, it’s about respect for people, as well as their air, land and water. From most people I’ve spoken with, there are several recurring themes with “blow-in” gas drilling companies: 1) Landmen are often blatant liars perpetrating fraud, 2) Leaseholders feel like second class citizens once drilling begins, 3) Much of the “industrial grade” drilling activities are not being taxed as other local businesses are, instead, enjoying Clean & Green treatment on the county tax rolls, 4) Washington County gas drilling is adversely affecting tap water quality as far away as Pittsburgh, 5) Negligent work by at least one Texas drilling company has created two fish kills in five months, both in Washington County, 6) When accidents do happen there is no accountability or responsibility, only excuses. So then Ms. Bauch-Terrell, if roles were reversed and you still lived in Dallas, how would you be responding to your new neighbors from Pennsylvania who were there to exploit your gas reserves? People around Pittsburgh have been down this road of environmental exploitation by energy companies many times, and are wise to all the outcomes. A few get rich, many get polluted, some get sick.
