Texan not flattered by column
What Mr. Paulsen fails to realize in his unflattering description of Texans is that he has maligned a good number of hard-working, devoted employees who are just doing their best to provide for their families just as everyone in the state of Pennsylvania is. A good number of Texans such as myself and my family, had no option but to leave our beloved state, homes and families in order to keep our jobs. I dare say that the vast majority of us are not the big bad wolves that Mr. Paulsen would have us be. We are buying homes, buying goods, going to church, visiting eating establishments, utilizing local services, etc. In short, the point I am trying to make is that we are contributing to the economy of the communities in which we live, in a positive manner.
Large oil and gas companies have paid and made many families very stable with offers to use their property for drilling purposes. And those having accepted offers I'm sure do feel that they have made friends in the oil and gas industry. (Would it have been better for Mr. Paulsen to have received his offer addressed "To Whom It May Concern" ?) No family has been forced to accept offers. There are families that may have missed out on good offers for many reasons, not because of deliberate deception but rather shrewd business dealing.
That's what this is about, a business opportunity for all involved locally and for the betterment of the United States as a whole.

As for me and mine, we look forward to making good and strong friendships with our neighbors and the community and to contribute as citizens of your state in the manner that we did back home.

Texas -- The same state that gave us George W. Bush for President
Welcome to the 'Burgh : 11/1/2009
Ms. Bauch-Terrell will be encouraged to know that Pittsburghers have become quite fond of several Texans. Who didn’t love O.A. “Bum” Phillips, who coined the phrase, “The road to the Super Bowl runs through Pittsburgh.” Even in defeat, Bum was always very gracious. More recently, many of us from SW Pennsylvania have come to love and respect several of the gas drilling activists from Texas, who are also working hard to save their Texas air and water quality from rampant gas drilling. So it’s not about where you are from, it’s about respect for people, as well as their land and water. From most people I’ve spoken with, there are several recurring themes with “blow-in” gas drilling companies: 1) Landmen are often blatant liars perpetrating fraud, 2) Leaseholders feel like second class citizens once drilling begins, 3) Much of the “industrial grade” drilling activities are not being taxed as other local businesses are, instead, enjoying Clean & Green treatment on the county tax rolls, 4) Washington County gas drilling is adversely affecting tap water quality as far away as Pittsburgh, 5) Negligent work by at least one Texas drilling company has created two fish kills in five months, both in Washington County, 6) When accidents do happen there is no accountability or responsibility, only excuses. So then Ms. Bauch-Terrell, if roles were reversed and you still lived in Dallas, how would you be responding to your new neighbors from Pennsylvania who were there to exploit your gas reserves? People around Pittsburgh have been down this road of environmental exploitation by energy companies many times, and are wise to all the outcomes. A few get rich, many get polluted, some get sick.

A lot of the transplanted workers here (be they from TX, VA, WV, OH, NY, etc.) are honestly good people. I have befriended a few. As long as you are doing what you know in your heart and mind to be right, don't worry about these folks. Yes, the companies often leave us with frustrations, etc. but that is not a reason to treat all of our new neighbors poorly. If the Texan wasn't doing the job they brought him here for, someone else would be. At least he has experience and can work safely. Take your anger out on the big company and the dishonest folks. Leave the honest family man alone.
The Texican : 11/2/2009
It's not where you live or spend your money; it's how you make your money. This honest family man is PAID by the big company. Although he is only a pawn, a foot soldier, he is still a part of the occupying forces.

So, by your thinking, everyone who works for the government under Bill Clinton's rule are criminals. What about all of those banking industry employees? Their companies got the big bail out dollars from the government and used it to give huge bonus checks to the idiots that ran the company into the drain the government tried to bail them out of... so ALL of the employees, right down to the janitor, are criminals, as are all of those who used their services. Interesting

According to Fox news, President Obama signed an executive order authorizing a $2 Billion (or more) to a Brazilian oil exploration company to drill for oil off of the coast of Brazil. If this is correct, he is loaning our tax dollars to promote offshore drilling for the benefit of a Chinese oil company when he opposes offshore drilling here for our benefit. What really takes the cake however, if true, is that the largest stockholder of this Chinese company is George Soros. Mr. Soros is the money and kingmaker behind Pres. Obama. If this is all true, it would be right in character for Democratic presidents. Bill Clinton made a part of Utah into a national park. This site happened to be one of only two locations in the whole world with very low sulfur coal. You can't mine coal in a National Park. The other location was owned by James Riady in Indonesia. Mr. Riady was to Bill Clinton what George Soros is to Obama. Jimmy Carter gave the Panama Canal back so the Panamanians could pay back their loans to the Rockefeller banks in New York. The Rockefellers were to Carter what the others were to Obama & Clinton. At least the Texans are doing something with U.S. resources that will benefit us.

"not because of deliberate deception but rather shrewd business dealing." These sound the same to me.

It is not very likely that any low level banking employees knew what the CEO's and their fellow schemers were doing behind the closed doors of the boardrooms.

Texas : 11/4/2009
"to contribute as citizens of your state in the manner that we did back home." God help any state that ends up like Texas. More murders and more executions per capita then anywhere else, ultra-corrupt gerrymandering and government, not only Bush jr, but Tom Delay and Dick Armey and Alberto Gonzales, statewide school board against evolution, a place full of ignorant cowboys and yahoos.
That's a Fact, Jack : 11/5/2009
What kind of "facts" do you want? Mellon Scaife bankrolled the Clinton smear campaign. There, are you happy now?
Yellow Rose, : 11/6/2009
it must be nice to live in a world where "vast right wing conspiracy" explains all.
Verify : 11/6/2009
That's an old story about Brazil, but ti is true. We can't drill, but Brazil (with the help of far left sugar daddy George Soros) can. Add HELLthcare and Cap and trade to this and I cannot think of much more I'd do to tank the US economy any deeper. How's that hope and change working for you yet?
Looking : 11/6/2009
No, vast right wing conspiracy doesn't explain everything ( it wasn't always vast and it wasn't always a conspiracy) but it does help to put your original post into perspective; being that the Dems are not the only ones with wealthy benefactors. Agreed?
Yellow Rose, : 11/7/2009
my original post did not broach the topic of republicans with wealthy benefactors. Its kinda of hard to cover every possible aspect of a political viewpoint in one sitting. So, for the record, Republicans can and do have wealthy benefactors. I don't see that as a problem however. I don't see that as a problem for Democrats either. What I see as a problem is wealthy benefactors receiving special favors at great expense to taxpayers. The Carter and Clinton examples I originally posted are fact. I invite you to point out a factual case of special favors involving great taxpayer expense of behalf of Mellon Scaife so that I can denounce it in my next post. Do you denounce the Carter and Clinton examples I pointed out? Will you denounce the Obama example if it proves to be true? Please take note that I have not blindly accepted Fox's allegations about President Obama.
Patriot, : 11/7/2009
thanks for the confirmation. Would you happen to have a website or publication to cite? I don't mean that sarcastically, I would like to access the information for my own edification. As far as hope and change goes, I just don't believe gvt, though necessary, is the source of my happiness.
Vast conspiracy : 11/8/2009
The vast right wing conspiracy doesn't explain everything.. I agree. It explains most of the attacks on Clinton, the lies that swamped Kerry, and most of the current attacks on Obama. The Liberals have done nothing in comparison so harmful to our country and people.
@ "Insulted Texan" : 11/10/2009
What exactly is relevant to this article about GW Bush being from Texas? What time are you due at the White House to kiss Obama's behind and mow the lawn? Sheesh.
Taking a neutral look is demanded. : 11/11/2009
Vast left wing conspiracy exists also and it is from international globalist origins - to destroy America. Red Jack is blind, deaf and dumb.
