Avella had public water for a century
The Avella area has had public water since the early part of the 20th century. It was a private system that was later purchased by the Independence Township Municipal Authority, and then improved and expanded. The authority also provided service to Cross Creek Township along Cross Creek Road to the village of Studa.
More recently, the system was sold to PAWC, which abandoned the local water treatment plant and installed miles of new water lines to service much of the rural area. But Meadowcroft Road for miles outside of the village did not receive service.
The current expansion of the system will provide service to Meadowcroft Museum and also Martin Avenue, which is actually located along the road, but quite distant from Avella proper. So, while Mr. Kramer's point about Meadowcroft is historically accurate, it is not so about the village of Avella.

Ah, Joe...I think the letter was meant to be a funny back handed jab at the supervisors who beat Mr. Kramer in the last election. It wasn't meant to be historically accurate.
its ok joe : 11/4/2009
Thank you for pointing out that Mr. Kramer does not have his facts straight. He pretends to understand things like history but usually doesn't . Not a very good history teacher!
