Use vouchers to get guns off streets
My health has gone downhill greatly over the chain of events this year. I have been blamed for things I have no control over. I cringe at the sight of younger people coming into my place of business, with no common sense and with no desire to better themselves. I have done whatever I can do to discourage them from being there and have asked many to leave and not come back. All are not bad, but it is the few that do ruin it for others.
We have a lot of people out there who want to make a difference but just play the "blame and shame game." Holidays are coming up. I would be more than willing to work with any organization in doing a gun drive to get the guns off the streets in exchange for turkey vouchers, winter coat vouchers or Christmas toy vouchers. Vouchers would be given out in exchange for turning in any firearm with a no-questions-asked policy to get the guns off our streets.
I would be willing to allow anyone to use my place of business to do dinners and lunches to raise money for a K-9 dog, or to help adult probation hire more help to keep a better eye on the field and more time for home visits to really see the environment. We need to work together to make change, not just expect everything to be done by the elected city officials. We have to all care and not just point the finger. The district attorney is only one man and he has enough cleaning up to do after years of this town allowing it to get this way. So don't talk, do. Make a difference.

Oh, I'm sure that all the criminals will be lining up to do that! Especially when they can sell their guns on the street for much more money so that they can go and buy their drug of choice. Oh boy, oh boy.
Criminals luv gun vouchers. : 11/6/2009
Take a gun used in a crime, exchange it for something useful, it gets destroyed leaving no evidence to prove the crime, sweet!
Thanks... : 11/6/2009
Your words make sense... thanks. I am a gun owner, a RESPONSIBLE gun owner. I would like to see soem cleaning up of the illegal, irresponsible possession/use of firearms.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

You beat me to the punch on that one.

coming from you, that's high praise. Thanks.
Vouchers? : 11/7/2009
Close your doors, sell the business and there's no doubt you'll be saving lives!!!. This letter is just a way to make it seem she cares so she can stay open.

Buy backs like this are nothing but an amnesty program for illegal guns.

I LOVE that movie quote!

I applaud your determination. At least you have the guts to try something, anything. Your idea may not be all solid, but all ideas start from somewhere. Instead of bashing her why don't you help her expand her idea and help make it work. No wonder Washington is getting no where. All everyone wants to do is bash and blame others instead of using their brain to actually help make things happen. Personal attacks seem to be quite regular in these comment sections and the point of the letters are getting lost. I don't know you, but the cruel words were unnecessary. I can bet if someone said these remarks to their grandmother, mother, sister, or daughter it would be a whole different story. Actually, if it was a wife, child or other family member who was killed by one of these illegal guns they probably would not think it was idiotic to try anything.
makes sense : 11/7/2009
That is a good idea. I think several other bar/tavern/club owners in the City of Washington should all get together and do the same thing. This may or may not help. Most of the stupid thugs would not trade their guns in, but it may force some of the careless owners to trade theirs in so the thungs cant get them. Its not the solution but a step in the right direction. The owners getting together and coming up with a solution is a giant step. A dress code like no baggy, hang off you but pants, put your hat on straight, having doormen check the adult probation list of all entering patrons, have police walk through the bar, keep music down low, cameras all would be a good idea. If all the owners would do this the thugs would either have to straighten up while in your establishment or leave town.

Criminals are the problem and they are not going to turn in their guns.
Vouchers a good idea. : 11/9/2009
I wish some area store or organization would offer a voucher system for turning in guns. I have a couple of guns given to me by an uncle who got them in the early '30's. I had them appraised a few years ago and was told that they would be good for using as fishing sinkers! So....if I could trade them for something useful, I'd do it. That's about the only type of guns that will be removed from the streets through such a program!
Vouchers : 11/9/2009
Hey a new way to put food on the table. Rob people of their guns and trade them in. Might work but I'm sure they'll keep one or two for protection.
Why : 11/9/2009
How about we punish criminals (the cause of crime) and stop blaming guns. A thug can use anything from a gun to a baseball bat to commit crime, so why not a baseball bat voucher program? I own several guns, and trust me, the late Ted Kennedy killed more people with his Oldsmobile that all my guns together have. All these buy backs do is get 'dirty' guns disposed of before law enforcement finds them.

I didn't say the voucher idea was a good system. The idea of people working together to find a cure instead of still playing the blame game, however, does make sense.
