Health care in Pa. incomprehensible
My daughter is in need of a knee operation so she can return to work and make a suitable living again. She has no money for any health-care plan at all. She is raising two children the best she can with help from the Department of Public Welfare.
The welfare has turned her down to get any full or partial medical assistance of any kind. No, she does not enjoy sitting home in drastic pain with no medication of any kind but asprins. With very low income coming in to the household she cannot afford to even go to a doctor, but she did go to the emergency room because she was in so much pain. The ER doctor ordered X-rays and found a tear within her knee and told her she will have to have surgery to correct the problem. So, where does she go from here? If anyone has a good and sensible answer, I would like to hear it. I thought welfare is supposed to help people return to work if they have low income and no money. It's beyond me.

First I suggest that you organize family and friends to aid in talking with thier churches and possibly setting up a donation fund of some type in the community because i don't want Obama's plan.

Dear Marsha, Here is a simple, sensible answer. Help your daughter out as a family. Schedule the surgery and make arrangements to pay for it. Sacrifice if necessary, dip into your savings if necessary, get a small loan if necessary and make payments over time. Once she is well encourage her to buy an affordable health insurance policy. In my opinion, this if far from incomprehensible. Become personally responsible rather than looking to governement for your solution.Simple, sensible and good for Pennsylvania.

I feel bad for this women, but the first question is: where is the father and why isn't he helping? 2nd, why not find doctor who will take payments? finally I agree with the above poster to organize your family and friends to help her and stop looking for a hand out.

The issue is they denied her surgery. You know, what the left says insurance companies do. It is the rationing of health care. That is what you get when the government gets involved.

That doesn't matter to the cradle to grave government crowd. They want theirs and want us to pay even more for it. Contact your local church, have a motorcycle poker run as a fund raiser, have a benefit dance, work a second job, or try one of the charity hospitals like the Shriners Hospitals. I'm a charitable giving person, but I'm getting damn tired of the I need government help crowd.

Since you and your daughter are taxpayers, and have contributed to the funds used in Medicaid, ignore these people who are calling you freeloaders. Instead, organize and demand a government single payer health insurance system that covers everyone at a fair cost. Work for it in your spare time, as much as you can. Make your demands known with others who agree with you to all your elected officials, be they dems or repubs. This may not help your daughter, but may save the life of one of your grandchildren 15 years from now, or whenever we get our national health system. It won’t happen unless people organize and pitch in.
