Teens charged in N. Strabane Twp. thefts
The three 17-year-old boys, all reportedly students at Canon-McMillan High School, also are accused of stealing global positioning units, cellular telephones, chargers and change. Police found two of the boys near the pond off Cricketwood Drive in the early morning hours of Sept. 7. The third also was found in the area.
Two of the boys, one from North Strabane Township and the other from Westland, Mt. Pleasant Township, will be charged with theft, criminal conspiracy and receiving stolen property for allegedly stealing the gun, owned by James Simons of Cecil Township, from a vehicle owned by Drew Sasek of 110 Old Meadow Road.
Township police Lt. Daniel Levi said that the two reportedly gave the .22-caliber pistol to a 17-year-old Canonsburg boy, who sold the gun to Chris Taylor of Canonsburg.

"Cecil police Detective Mark Marcucci went to the home of the boy who bought the gun, and he was cooperative," Levi said. "He turned the gun over to Marcucci."
"That was our main objective, to get the gun off the street," Levi added. "We wanted to get the gun out of the hands of a kid before someone got hurt."
Levi said the gun was accidentally discharged while they were in the backyard of the North Strabane boy's home.
The 17-year-old Canonsburg boy who sold the gun to Taylor will be charged by North Strabane police with receiving stolen property. Taylor will be charged by Canonsburg police Sgt. Al Coghill with receiving stolen property, illegal transfer of a firearm and carrying a firearm without a license.
The boys from North Strabane and Mt. Pleasant also were charged by police with theft from a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy for allegedly stealing the other items.

Give them a fine and 30 days house arrest. The Canonsbug boy has his life planned out and this could be holding him back. Don't shatter his life, he understands what he did was wrong but he plans on either going to the military and/or college following his senior year of high school. He plans to be a conluser for drug and alcholo addicted kids. Give them one last chance to clean thier lives up.
SCARED STRAIGHT : 10/14/2009
These are young adults, not kids 11&12 yrs. They know right from wrong. They need to spend a couple of days in jail.
Teens/young adults : 10/14/2009
Sure, give them a slap on the wrist and send them on their way to do this again, and again, till one day they are into something very serious. Too bad the one teen has his life planned out. Not muchh planning from what I've been reading....did he plan to rob others of their property? If he knew what he did was wrong, why did he do it in the first place. He knew it was wrong and he went ahead and commited the crime. What's next? Good parental guidance may be needed here. Whatever children learn, good or bad, they learn from home. Parents need to take a bigger part in their children's lives.

Why should they be given a slap on the wrist? They're no different than other hoodlums walking around with ILLEGAL weapons that could kill an innocent bystander. Teach them a lesson, and give them the appropriate punishment
do the crime... : 10/14/2009
Let the punishment fit the crime. The law should not discriminate no matter the age. Everyone feels remorse especially if you get caught. Maybe this is what they need to "clean their lives up" Certainly not a fine that the parents will end up paying
Scared straight - yes! : 10/14/2009
Concerned is right - they are adults - if this is an easy out for these kids, what is next?? Time to take responsibilty for their actions
Not always parents : 10/14/2009
Whatever children learn, good or bad, they learn from home. Can't always blame the parents. I've known more than a few who taught the kids nothing but good and they still made stupid choices.
Has his life planned? : 10/15/2009
Life as a criminal maybe!!! Handing out to many lights sentences is why there there are so many thiefs and drug addicts running the streets, they're not afrais of the consequences!!
