Fire claims Buffalo Twp. home

This article has been read 1264 times.

A fire Friday morning gutted a Buffalo Township home.

Claysville Assistant Fire Chief Dave Hildebrand said flames were going through the roof when firefighters arrived at the home of David and Joyce Danley, 504 Rural Valley Road, about 10:30 a.m.

Joyce Danley told Trooper Shaun L. Jones, state police fire marshal, that after she called 911, the fire had spread, preventing her from leaving through the front door.

"That's how fast it spread," Jones said.

The fire caused the living room floor to collapse into a game room below, said Jones.

Joyce Danley was the only one home when the fire started. She was taken to Washington Hospital, where she was treated for smoke inhalation and released.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but is not considered suspicious, Jones said. The house, which was a modular split-level home, did not have a smoke detector.

Assisting Claysville were firefighters from Taylorstown, Canton and North Franklin townships, Avella and West Alexander. Also assisting was the Washington County Rapid Intervention Team.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family.

walls and code construction makes these things LESS likely. Carmicheals 3 units in 15 minutes also speaks volumes, Saving a couple of bucks on contrcting can cost a life or your policy should you need to use it.

ounce of prevention

Corrections to these two articles: they lost one dog in the fire and the house did have smoke detectors. Doesn't O-R ever get things right??
