A Mt. Pleasant Township man is in Washington County Jail after allegedly threatening his 8-year-old daughter and his grandmother during a confrontation at their home Friday night.

James Christopher Antosh, 29, of 300 Hornhead Road, Westland, is accused of using a samurai sword to threaten the two about 9 p.m.

Township police Sgt. Lou McQuillen said emergency responders initially were told that Antosh had a gun.

"The 8-year-old girl was on the telephone with her mother telling her what was going on," McQuillen said. "The mother then called 911."

As police were setting up a perimeter around the house, the girl came running out.

"At that point, we still didn't know if he had a gun," McQuillen said. "We put the girl in the back of one of the police cruisers for her safety. That is when we found out that he had the sword and not a gun."

After the girl was out of the house, Antosh came out onto the porch and surrendered to police.

"Fortunately, we ended up not having a problem," McQuillen said.

Antosh's grandmother, Dorothy Antosh, told police that her grandson did not threaten her and was fighting with his daughter. The sword was found outside at the back of the house.

Antosh was put in jail on a Washington County adult probation detainer. Township police will charge him with reckless endangerment, simple assault, terroristic threats and having a prohibited offensive weapon at the office of District Judge Valarie Costanzo.

Assisting at the scene were police from Chartiers and Cecil townships and Houston.
