Suspect in custody in Finleyville armed robbery

A suspect has been apprehended in the early morning armed robbery of the the Sunoco convenience store on Washington Avenue in Finleyville, Monongahela police said.

A white man, between 5 feet, 6 inches and 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a thin build and dressed in black clothing, came into the store shortly before 3 a.m. and purchased an item. When the clerk opened the register, the man pulled out a semiautomatic pistol and told the clerk to give him all the money.

The man came behind the counter and grabbed more than $1,000 from the register, along with cigarettes and lottery tickets. He also took about $50 from the clerk's wallet.

The man told the clerk that he would kill him if he called the police and then fled on foot.

Monongahela police, who patrol Finleyville, reviewed photos from the store's security cameras and were able to identify a suspect. He was seen in the 600 block of East Main Street, Monongahela, this afternoon and taken into custody after a foot chase.

Police said the man will be arraigned later this afternoon and his identity will then be released.
