WAYNESBURG - A Carmichaels man who failed to stop after his sport utility vehicle struck three juveniles along a Cumberland Township road in June pleaded guilty Monday to driving under the influence of alcohol and other charges.

Stephen Todd Dodson, 43, appeared before Greene County Judge Farley Toothman and pleaded guilty to all charges against him including DUI, accidents involving death or personal injury, accidents involving damage to an attended vehicle or property, careless driving and driving on roadways laned for traffic.

Dodson entered an open plea; there was no plea agreement. He will be sentenced following the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Dodson was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer east on Browns Ferry Road about 4:11 p.m. June 27, when his vehicle ran off the road and struck two boys and a girl who were along the side of the road.

The boys, Cody Gibson, 16, and Travis Farrar, 17, both of Nemacolin, were straddling bicycles and the girl, Alyssa Freed, 17, of Crucible, was standing between them. All three were injured.

Dodson failed to stop at the scene. After receiving a report of the accident, state police initiated a "saturation patrol" to find the vehicle that was involved.

Police stopped Dodson on Crucible Road about four miles from the accident scene. When asked about damage to his vehicle, Dodson said "I think I hit someone," according to the criminal complaint.

Police said they also detected an odor of alcohol on Dodson. Tests indicated Dodson had a blood-alcohol content of 0.175 percent.

I am very glad to see justice will be served in this case. I hope this man realizes drinking and driving DO NOT mix and will never ever get behind the wheel again while intoxicated. If only everyone would follow this we'd have less to worry about on our roads.
