Borough playground gets facelift
Work was recently completed, and new equipment - a seesaw, carousel and swing set - was installed, said borough manager Heather Walsh.
While the new playground equipment is sure to attract borough children, there's also something new for adult residents.
Last month, a new 20-by-24-foot pavilion was completed, offering parents a place to relax while the kids are on the run.

The borough purchased the playground equipment for $4,000, which was funded in part through a 2004 grant from Coen Oil Co. The equipment was purchased from Recreation Resource in Kennett Square.
The cost of the pavilion was $9,000. It's being built by Scott Bernett, owner of Tri-State Restoration, who was the lowest bidder for the project.
According to Walsh, the Thayer Street playground is a real attraction for the borough's some 2,000 residents, especially those with children.
The playground was built in 1988. However, the playground lacked shade or seating areas; creating a pavilion was the logical answer.
In addition to the new equipment, the playground already has a climbing set and two sliding board/climbing sets.
"We think it's really nice," Walsh said.
But there's more to come for the playground.
Walsh said the borough is looking at purchasing new garbage cans, getting new signs and planting a flower garden in the spring.
"We'd also like to find some sponsors whose contributions would go to purchasing a few new picnic tables," she said.

Another waste of taxpayer money in a time where not one dime should be spent unnecessarity. When will our elected officials get it?
Not a waste : 11/12/2009
I live near the playground, and I am glad it got a facelift. It really needed it, and it is a place that the families in East Washington are thankful to have close by. Especially in these economic times when some of us have lost our jobs and are staying home with our kids. We need nice, fun places to be able to take our kids that won't cost a lot of money. As far as taxpayer money is concerned, I think if the borough rents out the pavillion, it will pay for itself.
Can't Wait... : 11/12/2009
I can't wait for some urban adolecents to "hit up" the new playground with their art!
The street next? : 11/13/2009
The street is what really needed fixed up - it is awful to drive on, and most people I know totally avoid it.
