Local police are investigating the robberies of two West Chestnut Street gasoline stations, one in Washington and the other in North Franklin Township, Wednesday night.

Investigators do not believe the robbery at the 7-Eleven, 375 W. Chestnut St., Washington, and BP, 1360 W. Chestnut St., North Franklin, are connected.

Washington police said a man of unknown race entered the 7-Eleven store about 9:18 p.m. He wore a bandanna on his head and face. The robber, who also wore sunglasses, had a maroon tarp or garment bag wrapped around his shoulders like a cape, police said.

He reportedly went up to the clerk and made a reference that he had a gun. Although she did not see a weapon, the clerk told police that the suspect acted as though he had one in his pocket.

The robber demanded all the money. After getting the cash, he left the store, traveling east on Chestnut. The clerk locked the door and called police, who arrived within a minute of receiving the call.

The robber also wore black jeans with a white design on the pocket and black shoes. He was 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall.

Two hours later, a robber held up the BP at knifepoint. The clerk told police that a black man wearing a yellow hooded shirt pulled up to cover his face entered the store about 11:17 p.m.

With a 6-inch knife in his hand, he demanded the money in the register, telling the clerk, "Give me all the money or I will kill you."

The clerk obliged, opening the register so he could get the money. She told police that he left, running in the direction of the pay telephone in the lot. She also locked the doors and called 911.

The clerk's sister, who also worked at the store, told police that she and a friend saw a man wearing a yellow jacket strike the pole holding the pay phone with a white sport utility vehicle.

The robber also wore a white T-shirt, black jeans and brown boots.

North Franklin police ask that anyone who may have seen the vehicle in the area to call 724-228-9610.

State police in Waynesburg are also investigating a robbery at a 7-Eleven on East High Street, Waynesburg, Franklin Township. A white man walked into the store about 12:45 a.m. Thursday, brandished a small caliber pistol and demanded money.
