A 2008 graduate of Canon-McMillan High School and sophomore at Penn State-Altoona was killed in a two-car crash Sunday night about a mile from the school’s campus in Blair County.

Nicole Chauvet, 19, was pronounced dead at Altoona Regional Medical Center following the 6:30 p.m. crash.

Logan Township police Chief Ron Heller said Chauvet was a back-seat passenger in a Honda Civic driven by 18-year-old Kaitlyn Leavins of Glen Mills. Leavins was going south on Chestnut Avenue when she made a left turn into the path of another car.

Leavins and three other girls, along with Chauvet, were taken to the Altoona hospital. The driver of the other car, Jason Sanders, 30, of Altoona, refused treatment.

Nicole you were my best friend and I miss you so much. You were the most caring person I've ever met. You always had a smile on your face and you could brighten up anyones day. It's so hard knowing you are gone and knowing that I won't hear from you. Today was the first time in months that we've gone without talking. It was so hard not text you or call you. I wish you were here. I miss you and love you. I'm praying for you and your family. Rest in Peace Nicole
