The 2000 Turkeys campaign received the largest single gift in its 25-year history Thursday when a representative of natural gas drilling company Range Resources presented a $20,000 donation. The presentation was made shortly nafter 8:30 a.m. on the Pete Povich morning show on WJPA radio.

Last week, The Meadows Racetrack & Casino gave $16,000 worth of vouchers to the turkey campaign co-sponsored by the Observer-Reporter and WJPA AM-FM, which until this Thursday was the largest donation received by 2000 Turkeys.

Thursday morning’s $20,000 donation, plus two $1,000 checks donated anonymously just moments later brought to $72,070 the total received to date by this campaign that helps the Greater Washington County Food Bank feed more than 3,300 families on its monthly rolls.

Since its inception in 1982, 2000 Turkeys has raised more than $780,000 to feed the hungry at Thanksgiving.

no turkeys at the food bank in greene co. this year unless you had a LARGE FAMILY, which i think is very WRONG. EVERYONE that is signed up for food bank ought to get a turkey regardless of your family size.THATS WHAT THANKSGIVING IS ALL ABOUT. next year maybe NO DONATIONS. WHERE R ALL THE TURKEY'S

Someone a little cynical? Damned if you, damned if don't in some sad folk's eyes. Amen to the gas drillers and their generous donation in tough economic times. Who cares the reasons why. A good deed is a good deed. I've seen people in need and they're thankful. Shame on you "Seen this before."

thankful
