New $21 million Pt. Marion bridge opens
This article has been read 347 times.
POINT MARION – The $21 million Point Marion Bridge project came to an end Thursday with an official ribbon cutting that opened the new span that carries Route 88 between Greene and Fayette counties over the Monongahela River.
Transportation Secretary Allen D. Biehler joined state Transportation Department District 12 Executive Joseph J. Szczur and other state and local officials at the ceremony.
Construction began on the new bridge in January 2008 and the new bridge was built south of the existing structure, allowing traffic to continue using the old span, which is scheduled for demolition later this year.
As part of the ceremony, the first vehicles to cross the new bridge were fire trucks from Bobtown, coming from the Greene County side, and fire trucks from Point Marion, coming from the Fayette County side.

Why not keep the old structure as a bike-pedestrian bridge?
