Pennsylvania state police said a Smithfield man was accidentally shot with his own gun Monday.

Mark Gerard Petrun, 53, of Smithfield failed to return home after dark and was found dead by family members on family property. The death is being evaluated as hunting accident, and final determination is pending autopsy and toxicology results. Waynesburg Volunteer Fire Department, Greene County coroner and the Pennsylvania Game Commission assisted in the investigation.

Aweful to hear this and my prayers go to his family. This goes to show no matter how long you have been hunting or around guns you ALWAYS need to respect them and treat them as if they are loaded...even if they are not.
