California clinches PSAC West title

Terrance Moore caught two long touchdown passes and California rallied from an early deficit to defeat Mercyhurst 28-7 Saturday to wrap up the PSAC West Division title.

The Vulcans (7-0, 8-2) will play Shippensburg in the State Game next week.

Mercyhurst fell to 4-6, including 3-4 in the conference.

This is the fifth consecutive season Cal has either won or shared the PSAC West football title.

Moore caught five passes for 141 yards, including a 58-yard touchdown that gave the Vulcans a 14-7 lead in the second quarter and a 45-yard bomb that gave Cal its final touchdown.

The Vulcans' Josh Portis completed 15 of 24 passes for 242 yards and three touchdowns.

He was intercepted once.

Tailback Windell Brown carried 11 times for 95 yards.

Wide receiver A.J. Jackson caught nine passes for 87 yards, including a four-yard score that tied the game 7-7 in the first quarter.

Josh Szeluga caught a seven-yard pass from Joe Laffey to give Mercyhurst a 7-0 lead.

Running back Ben Jennings, a graduate of Trinity High School, rushed for a 112 yards on 22 carries for the Lakers.

Steelers need to be serious following this kid, His team won the Pa Coal Miner Bowl and he runs a 4.46 at 6.4 and can sling that ball on point down the field
