Consol seeks new I-70 exit

Regional transportation leaders were pressed Thursday to approve construction of a new Interstate 70 interchange in South Strabane Township.
The Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission also gathered testimony on aligning the dangerous intersection of routes 980 and 50 in Cecil Township, state Sen. J. Barry Stout said.
And, as usual, the Mon Valley Progress Council lobbied for complete of the Mon-Fayette Expressway into Pittsburgh, said Stout, D-Bentleyville, who sits on the panel.
“Everybody wants (projects) but where do you get the resources?” Stout said. “It takes a long time to shepherd these things along.”

The SPC held its sixth and last public hearing Thursday in Pittsburgh before it approves its list of highway, bridge and mass transportation projects in 10 counties to forward to Harrisburg for another vote.
Consol Energy, based in Cecil Township, has long been requesting the I-70 interchange to property it owns along Zediker Station Road to develop a mixed-use park.
“They’re all good projects,” Stout said.
