The Rev. Joseph B. Codori, parochial vicar, said the crosses have been erected at other churches throughout the diocese but this is the first time the display has been erected at St. Pat’s. Unlike other places, such as St. Thomas More Church in Bethel Park, no one has tried to pull the crosses out of the ground or destroy them.
“Washington County seems to be pretty pro-life,” he said.
The month of October is Respect Life Month but November is also a time when the church focuses on prayers for the deceased. Those prayers, he said, include those who died after having lived a long, full life and also those for who never got to know the gift of life.
The display is not meant to cause derision, Codori said. Included in it is information on Birthright International, which provides alternatives to abortion, and Project Rachel, which offers post-abortion counseling.
“The Catholic Church wants to heal people of this problem, to remember the dead and the hurting and to offer ways for them to begin to heal,” he said.

SHAME ON YOU REVEREND : 11/17/2009
You profess to want to help people heal, how do you think anyone who has had an abortion feels when riding past this display? I am insulted by it because I believe in the law that says a woman can have an abortion and believe that morally it is between her and her God. Not you, not the Catholic church, or pro-lifers. It is shameful that you are disguising this in being a prayer for the deceased of all ages. Pray for the dead babies of the mothers who did not want them after they were born and died from neglect. Or, spend time finding homes for all the unwanted children in our world who suffer every day.
