Holiday train display travels to Washington
The model train enthusiasts are relocating their holiday train village from Canonsburg to the former Weber Furniture store in Washington, and will be accepting library donations from visitors next month.
“We’re not a club, but an informal group of guys mostly from Pittsburgh who love the trains and entertaining the kids at Christmas,” said Joe Jack of Washington.
The train display had become a tradition each Christmas in Canonsburg, but lost its space in the Rakcozy Building in the spring when the room was leased to a carpet store, Jack said.

Washington Main Street’s interim director, Peter Stefansky, heard about the situation and found the men space in the Weber building, which is being remodeled into offices and renamed the Freedom Center.
“We needed a temporary home,” Jack said.
He said the city is attempting to find a permanent home for the display that attracted 2,500 visitors in December 2008.
There will be an open house for the display at 31 E. Chestnut St. from 2 to 8 p.m. Nov. 29. During the month of December, it will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, and 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday except for Christmas. It will reopen the Sunday after the holiday and be open the following Monday and Tuesday, from 2 to 8 p.m.
