An acquaintance of a Claysville man accused of murdering an East Finley Township woman waived his case to court Tuesday. Brandon Joseph Howard, 21, of 19 Strabane Drive, South Strabane Township, appeared before District Judge Jay Weller without an attorney. He opted to waive his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of hindering apprehension, receiving stolen property and possession of hydrocodone filed against him last week by state police.

A student being transported in a school van from Wexford to Waynesburg sustained facial injuries in a two-vehicle accident on I-79 Tuesday afternoon, according to a 911 dispatcher.

Ola plans to reach out to local civilian leaders in order for the company to become more of a hometown presence. He is taking over for Capt. David A. Clay Jr. of Carnegie, right, who has served as commander since July 2009.

Young drivers target of statewide safety effort
The sound of crunching metal was followed by a tearful call from a teen who had just watched her friend's vehicle crash into a tree. It was an early morning wake-up call last week for young drivers at Fort Cherry High School as part of the statewide Teen Mobilization effort that runs through March 4.

FINLEYVILLE - Five people were injured, one critically, in a head-on collision Monday afternoon along Route 88 in Union Township. The accident was caused when Edward Caton, 34, of Monongahela, passed out behind the wheel of his minivan and it traveled into the path of a car driven by Ruby Todd, 65, of New Eagle, Southwest Regional police said.
