Bongiorni ruled ineligible by WPIAL

The WPIAL Board of Control ruled Thursday that Dylan Bongiorni, who transferred from Burgettstown to West Allegheny in January, is ineligible for sports because the move was made, at least in part, for athletic purposes.

Bongiorni left Burgettstown nine games into the basketball season. He was averaging 19.7 points per game and left the team in the midst of a four-game stretch in five days. The sophomore was also the Blue Devils' starting quarterback the past two seasons and passed for more than 1,000 yards as a freshman.

Bongiorni can not play sports for West Allegheny until one year from the transfer date.

West Allegheny can appeal the WPIAL's decision to the PIAA Board of Control.

GOOD! Finally the WPIAL stepped up and did something. But until they start doing this against Catholic and private schools then this is just a show.

Why should any school have power over any student transfer whether it be for academic of athletic purpose? If this kid wants to go to West A, so be it.

Hmmm, bull is right!!! If the prep and Catholic schools can do it so should all of the other districts. We need to stop talking about and take some action to see what we need to put a stop to it!!

Sounds like an AD with an axe to grind. I agree if the Catholic and Private schools can do it then the WPIAL should not be able to keep a kid in private school from playing. It's time someone stands up and makes a change to how the WPIAL operates.

Sounds to me like an AD with an axe to grind. The WPIAL should not be able to stop any kid from playing sports if he moves to another district until they are ready to step up and deal with the Catholic and Private schools recruiting. Everyone knows it's done so don't bother to deny it.

Old news about the private schools recruiting. The WPIAL will NEVER put them in their own league. I too believe that they should be in a private league. Here it comes, but who let this young man transfer? Was it for grades? or sports?

Those kids are going for the catholic education. There are 2 big problems. One the whole school system needs re-evaluated. Kids should go where they want, but who is going to provide transportation. Second, some parents think their kid is better than he really is. Little jonny is a superstar, but he's playing single a, let's send him to a triple a school and watch him get that d-1 scholarship. some kids are good because they're playing single a. i'm not saying some can't, but the majority can't just like d3 college kids can't play with d1 kids

WPIAL just denied the 2 Monessen football & basketball players that transferred to a catholic school.

The WPIAL did not deny the transfer...yet.....It tabled the transfer pending a review of the facts...

These boys may end up going to GCC but they didnt transfer to get a catholic education...The parents dont need to move since its a private school but if Terrance didnt quit the basketball team in January - they are probably still enrolled at Monessen........Even if the WPIAL denies them, most appeals heard by the PIAA approve the transfer when legal action is threatened...

What is tuition at GCC? For a non-Catholic? For a Catholic?

Not questioning what the kid said the head coach did at all to him. Let the kid move on he is right. Don't open that closet up anymore than you want. Some people might not like whats inside.
