A Charleroi man wanted on a felony warrant for allegedly leading police on a car chase last week is accused of assaulting an officer while police tried to take him into custody following a traffic stop in Washington over the weekend. City police said they pulled over 49-year-old Michael Jason Wright on Hayes Avenue about 8 p.m. Saturday for failing to use his turn signal, and soon learned he was wanted on the arrest warrant when he showed officers his driver’s license through the window, according to court documents. The Pennsylvania Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) provides income-eligible seniors with the opportunity to purchase locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs from approved farmers in Pennsylvania. The program provides five $5 vouchers totaling $25 to eligible seniors one time during the program year. The vouchers may be redeemed at designated area farmers markets through Nov. 30. To be eligible for the SFMNP vouchers, an individual must be 60 or older by Dec. 31 and must be a resident of Fayette, Greene, or Washington counties. Saying that the need is urgent, the American Red Cross has issued a call for blood donors. Donors of all blood types are needed to maintain a supply of blood in hospitals through the summer. Platelets are also needed. The American Red Cross has experienced a drop in scheduled donations in recent weeks, plus blood donations typically drop in the summer due to school breaks and regular donors taking vacations. PathWays is set to further expand its early-intervention capacity thanks to recently awarded grant funding.
