Nemacolin Woodlands to open lodge

1 min read

FARMINGTON – Nemacolin Woodlands Resort said Wednesday it will open its new Sundial Lodge Dec. 24.

The building repleaces the original Sundial Ski Lodge, which was destroyed by fire Feb. 12.

The Fayette County resort said in a press release that it has dropped the the word “ski” from the complex name to better reflect the additional amenities it offers.

In addition to the ski operations and rental shop, the new lodge houses Apex, a casual bar and dining outlet with year-round service.

Designed by DRS Architects of Pittsburgh, the new facility features 200 feet of nearly continuous floor to ceiling curtain wall offering panoramic mountaintop views from the bar, dining room and outdoor terraces.

The dining and bar area of Apex sit beneath a custom-designed heavy timber roof structure of natural Douglas fir, while the building’s focal point is a natural stone hearth and chimney towering a full two stories through the heart of the lodge.

The original sundial sculpture, which survived the blaze, stands at the entrance of the new lodge.
