Dozen’s cupcakes headed to McMurray

2 min read

Dozen Bake Shop, a popular bakery in the Lawrenceville and Oakland sections of Pittsburgh, is coming to Peters Township. It will open in June at Donaldson’s Crossroads Shopping Center, 3909 Washington Road.

A soft opening is scheduled for June 1, with the grand opening planned for the middle of that month, said Dena Rupp, the company’s operations manager. She said there will be about 15 to 20 employees.

Dozen’s specialty is gourmet cupcakes made from scratch. It also serves pastries, soups, sandwiches, salads and other items, plus vegan options.

Rupp said discussions began last year on adding a third shop, and other areas had been considered, “but we felt McMurray would be a good location.”

That actually will not be a third shop, as the one in Oakland will close May 25. Rupp said having two sites nearby in the East End was no longer feasible.

She said the Peters shop will be “probably three times bigger” than the one in Lawrenceville, the original store, which opened in 2006. The new Dozen will feature a large kitchen, bakery and a room with tables. A courtyard, part of the shopping center remodeling, will be in the front. Hours have not been established. Sunday brunch, available in Lawrenceville, is likely.
