Meadows, most other casinos see April slots revenue decline

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said Thursday that collective slot machine revenue produced at the 11 casinos during April dropped 4 percent compared to April of last year.

It was the fifth straight month of declines in statewide slot revenue.

The latest figures included a 9.68 percent drop in gross terminal revenue from slots at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino.

According to PGCB figures, the North Strabane Township casino had $20,110,853 in slots, down from the $22,267,253 collected in April 2012.

The Meadows’ closest competitor, Pittsburgh’s River’s Casino, stayed nearly pat last month, recording gross slots revenue of of $24,444,239, just 0.2 percent above the $24,396,425 it collected from slots play in April of a year ago.

Valley Forge Casino Resort was the biggest percentage gainer for slots revenue in April, collecting $5,395,225, a 33.79 percent gain over the $4,032,516 it took in last April. Valley Forge’s neighbors, Philadelphia’s Parx Casino and Harrah’s Philadelphia Casino, both saw slots gross revenue decline 4.39 percent and 8.01 percent respectively.

Erie’s Presque Isle Downs was the biggest percentage loser, seeing $11,809,262 last month, down 15.98 percent from the $14,054,747 it collected in April 2012.

According to the PGCB’s monthly report, this April’s gross revenue from the play of slot machines statewide was $205,155,405, or approximately $9 million less than the gross revenue of $214,149,502 produced in April 2012.

The Board also reported that the amount of tax revenue generated for the commonwealth from slot machine play during this April was $110,378,513.
