Meadows Casino slots revenue falls 8 percent

HARRISBURG – The Meadows Casino posted nearly an 8 percent decline in March slot machine revenue, according to the latest data from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

The North Strabane Township gaming venue was one of nine Pennsylvania casinos that saw slots revenue fall in the latest reporting period.

The PGCB reported in a news release Wednesday that total revenue generated through the play of slot machines at Pennsylvania casinos during March was down 5.7 percent compared with the amount generated a year ago.

It was the fifth consecutive monthly revenue decline from slot machines.

According to the report, this March’s gross revenue from slots machine play at the 12 casinos was $216,213,980 compared with $229,335,372 of gross revenue in March 2013.

Tax revenue generated in March of this year just from slot machine play was $115,684,705.

In a comparison of just the 11 casinos operating in March 2014 that were also open for the full month of March 2013, revenue was 6.7 percent lower this year.

At The Meadows, March gross terminal revenue was $19,869,316, down $1,713,955, or 7.94 percent from the $12,583,272.20 collected in March 2013.

At Pittsburgh’s Rivers Casino, gross revenue from slots for March was $25,646,514, down 1,789,270, or 6.52 percent, from the $27,435,784 collected the previous March.

Declining March slots revenues was the name of the game at all but two of the state’s casinos.

Valley Forge Casino Resort posted an 18.26 percent gain, moving from $5,661,255 in March 2013 to $6,694,868 last month.

Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs eked out a 0.62 percent gain, tallying $20,545,310 last month, up slightly from $20,419,377 in March of a year ago.

Lady Luck Casino, which opened July 1, 2013, had $2,207,008 in gross terminal revenue last month.

According to the PGCB, the average number of operating slot machines throughout Pennsylvania at the 12 casinos was 26,574 last month, compared to 26,215 in March 2013.
