Jobless rates up in Washington, Greene

1 min read

The July unemployment rates for Washington and Greene counties each rose 0.2 of a percentage point from June.

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry released seasonally adjusted numbers Tuesday, and they pegged Washington County’s rate at 5.6 percent and Greene’s at 4.6 – up from 5.4 and 4.4 percent, respectively, in June.

That was Washington County’s second increase in three months and Greene’s first since March.

Both July figures, however, remained below the state (5.7) and U.S. (6.2) jobless percentages.

Each county’s rate was significantly lower than in July 2013, when Washington had 7.0 percent unemployment (a 1.4-point dive) and Greene 6.3 percent (a 1.7-point drop).
