The casino at the Meadows Racetrack & Casino continues to deal a winning hand to local and statewide economies.

Figures released Wednesday show the casino disbursed more than $230 million throughout Pennsylvania in 2013, including $127 million in gaming taxes to the state Department of Revenue.

Sean Sullivan, vice president and general manager of The Meadows, said in a news release: “While competition continues to increase, The Meadows continues to make a considerable impact on Southwestern Pennsylvania’s economy. We are proud of our efforts to reinvest in our communities.”

The North Strabane Township facility also spent $51 million-plus on local taxes, vendors, supplies and charitable donations, and another $51 million in payroll and other costs for 1,400 employees.

Meadows Casino disbursements to Washington and Allegheny counties in 2013 topped $40 million combined. That total doesn’t include $6.2 million that went to Washington’s Local Share Account, which helps fuel economic development and community improvement projects. More than $58.5 million has gone to the LSA fund since the program began in 2008.

The Meadows also has spent $27 million-plus to expand and enrich the entire complex, including a new parking garage and upgrades to traffic infrastructure, facilities and amenities.

Outside entities likewise are investing in projects near the casino and horse track. Meadows Hotel Associates LLC, which isn’t affiliated with The Meadows, broke ground in December for a 155-room Hyatt Place hotel on 4 acres in front of the complex. And Horizon Properties is planning to develop “Street at The Meadows,” a 22-acre retail and apartment development along Racetrack Road.
