Mon Valley Transit gets vehicle grant
HARRISBURG – Gov. Tom Corbett awarded Friday $7.7 million in Act 13 funding to 25 companies and organizations that are making the switch to compressed natural gas for their heavy-duty fleet vehicles.
Mid Mon Valley Transit Authority was the only Washington County entity selected, according to a news release. MMVTA got $125,000 to purchase five CNG commuter buses. There were no grants awarded in Greene County.
“Act 13 not only strengthened oversight of the drilling industry, it allows us to continue growing jobs while cleaning the air at the same time,” Corbett said.
“Natural gas, particularly from the shale formations here in Pennsylvania, is an abundant, affordable, domestic fuel that is putting this country on a path to energy independence.”
