Stout had several memorable students
Usually, it’s teachers who leave an indelible impression on students. Sandy Stout experienced the inverse.
She began her career in education nearly 40 years ago in Upper St. Clair School District. Stout was a second-grade instructor at Baker Elementary, where she was in charge of two tykes with distinctive sports lineages.
Casey Waterson had a famous grandfather with a famously raspy voice and the best home run call in baseball: “You can kiss it goodbye!” Bob Prince was a longtime Pirates broadcaster who rooted shamelessly on the air, but was generally revered regionally.
Then there was the boy whose father, Dick, was a Steelers executive following a productive playing career with the team. The lad, unbeknownst at the time, would become more visible than his dad – for better and for worse.
That was Todd Haley, Steelers offensive coordinator and a divisive force within Steelers Nation. He’s coming off a tough week.
“It was quite a class,” according to a chuckling Stout, who said “kiss it goodbye” to the district after one year.
