MONACA – Community College of Beaver County said Wednesday it will greatly expand its course offerings at its Southpointe location, beginning Jan. 12.

The college, which said in a news release that it will offer 46 new credit courses, said the addiions are a result of its experience working with Washington County employers to train their workforces.

CCBC said the additions will lead to a variety of degree and certificate programs. With the addition of the credit courses and a 25 percent increase in noncredit course offerings, the college now offers close to 90 credit and noncredit courses at Southpointe.

“We are significantly expanding credit course offerings that seamlessly transfer to all of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education universities toward bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice, history, English, pre-K-4, biology, business administration, communication, environmental science, psychology, social work and art,” said Dr. Melissa Denardo, vice president for learning and student success/provost. “As a result, we can provide an economical means for Washington County residents to take courses close to home that will lead to certificates, associate degrees, and, through partnerships, bachelor’s and graduate degrees.”

Course offerings include: foundation and developmental studies to help students enhance their readiness to succeed in college level studies; two-year degree programs for those who plan to transfer to four-year colleges and universities and complete a bachelor’s degree; career and occupational programs that can be finished in one or two years and prepare students for entry into the workforce or allow working adults to expand their skills; short-term, noncredit programs focusing on career skills development in response to the needs of employers across the region; and community education offerings that provide personal enrichment courses and lifelong learning opportunities.

“CCBC is committed to partnerships and programs that will lead to increased college completion rates for the citizens of Washington County,” said Denardo.

Additionally, 40 noncredit workforce open-enrollment classes will be offered onsite during the spring semester.

The newly added credit course offerings at CCBC @ Southpointe expand on an already-existing and well-established partnership with Washington County employers and workers.

“CCBC partners with Washington County businesses to provide customized training solutions that improve the skills of their workforce, and are adapted to meet the specific needs of each client and held on-site at the organization,” said Merilee Madera, operations manager for CCBC’s Washington County Center.

CCBC will hold an open house at its Southpointe location from 9 a.m. to noon and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 3. Contact Merilee Madera at 724-480-3448 or merilee.madera@ccbc.edu to reserve a spot for the event.
