Art studios opening in county
Painting aficionados will soon have two new venues in which to satisfy their inner artist.
Painting With a Twist of Washington will open Monday in the Old Mill complex, and Painting With Friends will launch Dec. 14 at 438 E. National Pike, Amwell Township.
Rebecca Anderson owns Painting With Friends, which will have a grand opening Dec. 14-15 by invitation only, then Dec. 17 for the general public.
She also is starting two other businesses – Welma’s Old-Fashion Farmhouse Cookies and Villiage Primitives (a craft store) – in the 3,000-square-foot structure along Route 40. Anderson said the building is more than a century old and “has character. It has floor to ceiling brick walls and used to be an inn. Grover Cleveland stayed there.”
The building, she added, was previously known as Moses Tavern and Old Pike Antique Center.
Washington native Billie Athanas is the owner/operator of the local Painting With a Twist, a national paint-and-sip franchise with more than 250 locations in 32 states. Instructors lead classes in which participants get together to paint, drink wine, listen to music and explore their creativity. They work on bare 16-by-20-inch canvases with paint and brushes provided by the studio.
The local studio will have classes and office hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
