State slots revenue increases
HARRISBURG – Gross revenue from slot machines at the state’s 12 casinos rose 5.3 percent last month compared with January 2014, according to figures the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board posted Wednesday on its website gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov.
And The Meadows helped fuel that increase.
The board reported that $180,963,004 was generated in January, a leap from $171,786,456 for the same month in 2014. Tax revenue raised last month was $96,476,806.
The Meadows, in North Strabane Township, experienced a 1.24 percent rise in revenue year over year. It generated $15,899,154.43 last month, up from $15,704,814.49 the previous January.
Lady Luck Casino Nemacolin, in Fayette County, had a whopping 38.99 percent increase to $2,109,974.45. Its January 2014 revenue was $1,518,052.04.
Revenue also rose at Pittsburgh’s Rivers Casino. Its total of $22,258,968.82 last month was 2.62 percent above the year-ago figure of $21,690,444.32.
Pocono Downs was the only casino that declined, dropping 5.21 percent to $16,030,986.86 from $16,912,113.52.
The revenue increase was accomplished despite a drop in the number of slot machines from January 2014.
An average of 26,355 machines operated statewide last month, compared with 26,606 one year earlier.
