1 min read

HARRISBURG – Slot machine play picked up statewide last month, rising 5.82 percent from the previous December. And The Meadows Casino was a factor in that increase.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board released its monthly slot machine revenue report Monday on its website, gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov. It showed the 12 casinos produced $188,426,686 in revenue last month, more than $10 million above the December 2013 figure of $178,059,128.

And that was with an average of 214 fewer slot machines in operation daily – 26,377 last month compared with 26,591 the previous December.

The Meadows, in North Strabane Township, generated $17,096,414.17 in slots revenue last month, a 0.64 percent rise from $16,987,205.43 in December 2013.

The region’s other two casinos were mixed. Lady Luck Casino at Nemacolin, in Fayette County, realized a 38.29 percent jump from $1,570,498.31 in 2013 to $2,171,907.87 last month. Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, however, declined 0.16 percent from $23,060,825.22 in December 2013 to $23,023,642.50.

For the fourth consecutive calendar year, slots revenue topped $2.3 billion statewide at $2,319,534,380. But that was 2.7 percent below the 2013 figure of $2,384,098,225.

Slots play raised $1,239,730,997 in taxes in 2014.

Gross revenue at The Meadows was $217,289,559.19 last year, a 5.43 percent drop from $229,773,418.51 in 2013. Rivers fell 2.59 percent, from $284,287,181.50 in 2013 to $276,936,722.40.

Last year, Lady Luck had $26,666,269.85 in revenue. There was no full-year comparison for that casino, which opened July 1, 2013.
