Steelworkers to rally at ATI headquarters
PITTSBURGH – Hundreds of United Steelworkers Union members, retirees and supporters are expected to participate in a rally Thursday at the downtown headquarters of Allegheny Technologies Inc.
The rally is scheduled for noon. Participants will meet at USW headquarters, 60 Boulevard of the Allies, and march to the ATI site at Six PPG Place. A number of union officials are expected to speak.
ATI, a specialty steel company formerly known as Allegheny Ludlum, and more than 2,200 USW members are in contract negotiations following the June 30 expiration of their most recent pact. The 2,200 union employees, who are continuing to work under terms of the previous contract, are at 11 plants in four states. ATI has eight locations in Southwestern Pennsylvania, including Canton Township and Houston.
In May, ATI unveiled the hot-rolling and pocessing facility it built in Brackenridge, Allegheny County, which cost $1.2 billion.
The USW represents 850,000 employees working in a number of industries in North America.
