Observer-Reporter names new Greene County bureau chief

Mike Jones, who has covered crime, courts, city government and energy for the Observer-Reporter, has been promoted to the position of Greene County bureau chief at the newspaper’s Waynesburg office.

He succeeds former bureau chief Jon Stevens.

Jones, 31, of Washington, began his career as a reporter/photographer with the Charleston (W.Va.) Daily Mail in 2005, covering police and writing features.

He joined the Observer-Reporter in November 2006 as a staff writer, covering municipal and state governments, school boards and crime until June 2009. He later worked as an editor/reporter for AOL’s Patch.com, providing online coverage of daily news in Pittsburgh’s South Hills communities.

Jones rejoined the O-R in April 2013 as a multimedia staff writer.

He is a 2005 graduate of West Virginia University, where he earned a B.S. degree in journalism.
