Workforce re-entry conference planned

The Washington County Re-Entry Conference, designed to help ex-offenders find employment and successfully transition back into the community, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at The George Washington hotel.

Sponsored by Washington County Commissioner Diana Irey Vaughan, President Judge Katherine Emery and Southwest Corner Workforce Development Board, the conference will focus on community services and support available to ex-offenders and their families. The daylong conference will provide information about employment and training opportunities, expunging records, drivers license restoration, transportation, housing, employers and legal services.

Dean Williams of Formerly Convicted Citizens Project in Pittsburgh will be the keynote speaker at the event. Other speakers will include representatives from adult probation, behavior health/developmental services, clerk of courts, the Consumer Health Coalition, district attorney, domestic relations section, PA CareerLink, Department of Human Services, Community Action Southwest, Southwest Training Services, Southwestern PA Legal Services, Washington Drug & Alcohol Commission, Washington Rides and Social Security Administration.

Local employers will be on hand to discuss best practices when hiring individuals with criminal backgrounds and several community organizations will provide information on additional services that are available in Washington County.
