Items from Macy’s that closed in Pittsburgh go on display Nov. 20

PITTSBURGH – More than 100 artifacts from the recently closed Macy’s store in downtown Pittsburgh will go on display at the Senator John Heinz History Center next month.

Some items will be used to re-create a holiday window display, a popular annual attraction that is unveiled each Light Up Night, the city’s kickoff to the holiday shopping season.

The window display will be erected at the history center starting Nov. 20, this year’s Light Up Night.

Non-holiday items, including a bronze exterior plaque and other artifacts, will go on display at the history center in coming months.

The former Macy’s building was originally a Kaufmann’s department store. It opened in 1887 before Macy’s bought the building in 2005.

A Philadelphia developer plans to convert it to a hotel, retail and apartments.
