Manufacturers group to meet for presentation on ‘Fab Lab’
Washington County Manufacturers Association will meet Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel on Racetrack Road, North Strabane Township.
The meeting will begin with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. with dinner to follow at 6:30 p.m. The evening’s program will be presented by Intermediate Unit 1 in coordination with Chevron Corp. and The Fab Foundation to discuss the IU’s launch of a digital fabrication lab (Fab Lab) that will serve Fayette, Greene and Washington counties. IU1 is one of 10 locations around the country to receive both a community Fab Lab and a mobile Fab Lab, which are intended to further STEM education.
The Community Fab Lab will feature the latest design and fabrication equipment such as laser cutters, 3-D printers, vinyl cutters and milling machines, which will give students and the broader community unprecedented access to science, technology, engineering and mathematics resources and help build the skills and experience needed to succeed in STEM fields.
In addition to providing access to resources for students in the K-12 system, undergraduate students and the community at large will be able to use the design and fabrication equipment and have access to an international Fab Lab network.
The IU1 Community Fab Lab and the IU1 mobile Fab Lab are made possible through a $1.2 million, three- year grant from Chevron.
Reservations, which are required, can be made by calling Ron Davis at 724-746-4300 by Tuesday.
