Macy’s at Century III Mall to close

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Macy’s is closing a store that anchors one of the Pittsburgh-area’s biggest malls as part of a move to shutter 40 stores nationwide.
The store at the Century III Mall in West Mifflin will close in the next two to three months.
The Cincinnati-based chain is reorganizing its 770 stores as the chain adjusts to declining sales.
The store has anchored the mall since 1979, when it was owned and operated Federated Department Store Co. and was named Kaufmann’s.
Macy’s parent company, May Department Store Co., bought out Federated in 2006 and changed the store’s name to Macy’s.
The store has about 100 employees. Their jobs will be cut, though some of the workers may be able to transfer to other stores in the Pittsburgh-area.
Macy’s closed its iconic downtown Pittsburgh store in September.
