If the walls could talk, they’d have 65 years of stories to tell about Club 40, a popular restaurant/bar.

Club 40 shut down more than four years ago, but its exterior walls remain, and starting this summer, they may have new but similar stories to tell.

Forty Bar & Grille is being built on that location, at the intersection of Chestnut Street (Route 40) and Mounts Road in North Franklin Township, a few hundred yards from Buffalo Township.

A couple of Washington County natives named Robert – Starr and Merashoff – are the owners and Emily Cottrill the project manager of the endeavor. They are preparing to start interior work and are planning a summer launch.

“Everything is new except the exterior walls,” said Starr, president of JRS Land Co. in Meadow Lands. He said there will be a deck at the back and “live music, entertainment most nights.”

Club 40 opened in 1946, a one-story structure built on a 2.62-acre site with seating for about 200 and an 80-space parking lot. Its 8,554 square feet of space was split between the main and lower levels. The kitchen, offices and storage were located below. The club was closed in 2011.

It is about two miles west of Interstate 70.

The World Class CEO award, bestowed annually by the Southpointe CEO Association, will be shared this year by two attorneys: one dating to the Truman era, the other a university president.

Charles C. Keller, founding partner and senior counsel at Peacock Keller & Ecker LLP, and Douglas G. Lee, Waynesburg University president, will be so honored June 16 at the Hilton Garden Inn Southpointe.

It will be the 14th annual presentation of an award that recognizes excellence in profession, achievements in service and dedication to business development in Southpointe.

A World War II bomber pilot, Keller went on to become a founding partner of Peacock Keller & Ecker LLP 65 years ago. He has served in leadership roles with local, state and national bar associations and been involved with a number of charitable organizations, Keller has provided long-term counsel for many Southpointe organizations.

Four years after arriving, Lee became president of Waynesburg University on July 1, 2013. During his watch, the school has gotten 10-year reaccreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and began a $23 million revitalization of the campus science hall. Waynesburg has a branch campus at Southpointe.

Healthy Pet Products is heading for a new home.

The store, which sells only natural and organic dog and cat food, plans to open April 11 at 3043 Washington Road, Peters Township. That is slightly north of Valley Brook Road, and less than five miles south of its previous location – also on Route 19 near South Hills Village.

Healthy Pet Products, Boston Market and several other small businesses had to leave Campbell Place, at the intersection of Washington and Fort Couch roads in Upper St. Clair. That building will be demolished and a stand-alone CVS pharmacy will be built in its place.
