A cool idea
Dairy Queen is coming back to Peters Township.
A DQ Grill & Chill Restaurant will open this week at 102 McDowell Lane. It will share the building where Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza has been operating since August 2013. DQ will be on the left side, as viewed from Route 19.
Peters had lost two DQ locations in the previous eight months. A Dairy Queen Brazier at Exxon Footracks, diagonally opposite from the new Eat’n Park on Route 19, closed in September along with the Exxon gas station; and a full Dairy Queen shut down Tuesday at 1017 Waterdam Plaza Drive.
Jasleen Kaur was the franchisee for those restaurants, but decided to consolidate them into the McDowell Lane site. She also owns a Grill & Chill on Pittsburgh’s South Side and a Dairy Queen Brazier on Route 51 in Whitehall.
Peters’ new DQ will have 2,300 square feet of space, seating for 50, table service and self-serve drink stations. There also will be a drive-through.
DQ Grill & Chill is occupying a space that was previously unused. Ed Dunlap owns the building. He operated a Damon’s Grill & Sports Bar, which shut down before Anthony’s moved in.
The evolution of Peters Township Marketplace will continue June 3 with the launch of a Northwest Bank branch.
Northwest will open the location at 9 a.m. that day, said Melanie Clabaugh, communications manager for the Warren, Pa.-based bank. Tyler Novak will manage a staff of six in a 2,400-square-foot space.
The branch will feature two drive-through lanes with remote video teller units, and a walk-up depository ATM for cash and check deposits round-the-clock.
“Our new office will be reflective of a refreshed Northwest brand,” Clabaugh said in an email. “We officially dropped ‘Savings’ from our name to better reflect our full-service offering.”
She added that for the fifth time in seven years, J.D. Power has ranked Northwest among the highest banks in customer satisfaction in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Peters Township Marketplace, at the intersection of Washington and Hidden Valley roads, is a $4 million, single-building center. It sits in a space previously occupied by a chiropractic clinic, which shut down more than four years ago.
The marketplace opened for business March 2, when the new Peters Eat’n Park began operations. Space for a third business is still available.
